When Polish People’s Army canceled all horse army combat units in 1949 it was matter of months or a few years that no horse gas masks will be needed in Polish Army but even then all orders of gas masks import were finalized so very few horse masks that have been bought left (some still untouched) in military stocks and in 50’s or 60’s were given to Civilian Defense.
Anyway soviet WW2 horse masks were similar in shape, same grey color(other variant were also made from light brown rubberized canvas), also two filters, one on each side, and same exhale valve cover.
They were also used by Hungarian Army and probably any other country that same like Poland didn’t had their own horse masks. Mask is stamped insize with barely visible MON stamp what stands for Ministry of Defense of Polish Army.
